How to Write a Thesis

The word thesis came from a Greek word means “something put forth”.  We can also call it as an intellectual proposition. It is a compiled document showcases the research that is being done and is submitted by the students during the period of their M.tech.

The Thesis contains all the facts and figures, arguments and suggestions, experiments and results and all other stuff they get to know during their research. The extent of the project depends on the nature of topic, in-depth research and rules and regulations of different universities. Thesis writing is based on the following three areas:

• Topic
• Research
• Synopsis
• Style
• Presentation
• Conclusion

 

Choice of the topic

The initial step to begin with the M.Tech thesis writing is to choose an intuitive and easy topic to conduct the research thoroughly and reliably. Choosing a topic can be a daunting task as students have to pick an original and relevant topic which should also serve its purpose in other languages too.

By following certain guidelines, one can easily make a decision about the topics in different fields.

If you want to deliver compelling thesis, then you need to collect different ideas either online or from books. Try to get as many ideas as you can. You never know, you may discover a unique idea from the common topics. You can also mingle two topics and generate a different idea that can really bring a change in your thesis. In short, keep on exploring to discover, learn and perform.

It’s usual to get many topics while looking for the perfect one. It’s highly a confusing state of mind where we have options but the choice is not easy to make. Why not make it easy by evaluating each and every topic on the grounds of feasibility, technicality, and usage.

Synopsis

Great! You have your topic now.

Selection of the topic is followed by base paper implementation. It means grasping the knowledge from the amount of work that has already been put into your selected topic.

Next is the preparation of synopsis report. Remember, a synopsis is an introduction to your report. It must be explicative and well defined as it defines your aims and objectives of the technical research of the topic. Make your synopsis report more appealing with a catchy title that leaves the reader with no ambiguity. The main purpose of the synopsis is to plan about how you are going to fulfill your research goals. It is a short outline of your proposed thesis work. A thesis synopsis should include the following information:

Background detail

Background detail includes the problem definition, goals and objectives of the proposed thesis work and how it will contribute to the existing work. You have to lay down the problems which has encouraged you to provide a solution to these problems through your thesis.

Make a brief report of what makes you pick this topic. Back it with the brief information as it will pull more interest in your research. Conduct an in-depth research on the topic and cull out queries and questions that are related to the same. Find their answers and make a separate section of FAQ’S in your synopsis report. It will show your dedication, focus, and interest towards the topic.

Outline

In this case, you have to give an outline of what all data and requirements you have to carry out your work. You have to specify your target audience for whom you are writing this thesis.

When it comes to “HOW”, you should mention about the procedure, tools, techniques, and criteria on which your thesis stands. Take the advantage of facts, figures, graphs, formulae and any survey to make it more informative and engaging. List down all the major references. The reference list should support your work. The reference list should be able to demonstrate the methodological way of your work.

The length of the synopsis can range from two to five pages but it all depends upon your institution. You should submit your synopsis report before the submission of your final report.

Research

It’s time to start with the research. The more you will explore, the more you will be able to get into the skin of the topic. Work is complete, now how to conclude? A good conclusion will summarise all the work you have done. You should submit your thesis before the deadline. Remember your deadline and utilize full time to make your thesis as interactive as possible. Go for proofreading to find the underlying errors and mistakes that left unnoticed while you were working on the thesis.
